What's In a Street Name 3
Hamper's Lane runs east of Depot Road in Horsham and leads to St Leonard's Park House, once the home of the Aldridge Family and now coverted into apartments. The first half of the lane crosses another road before it enters countryside on the edge of Horsham. The lane crosses the parish boundary, marked by a stream and woods entering the parish of Lower Beeding. Hamper's Lane is an old name and takes it's name from a John Hampere who was recorded as living nearby in 1428 in the reign of Henry VI.
