A big crazy day
Today was many many things, all of them good and scary and crazy. Holiday blips will be up soon, but I just have to get this all down tonight.
What. A. Day. The most important thing is that today is Mama's birthday, and she was appropriately spoiled by me and Dad and everyone at work with flowers and cake and presents. Happy birthday Mama!
Today began very early - I got up early to get ready for a fairly important job interview. You've all heard me whinge about being unemployed for a while, and not only do I want a job because I just want a job, I really want this particular job. It's a customer service job with the National Trust working at the Old Melbourne Gaol, and it seems to perfectly align my skills with my interests. Having returned very late last night from Queensland, I had a fair bit to do to get ready so Mum came over before work to help and to calm me down. We even got the train into the city together!
The interview went really well, even though they were running really late and I had to loiter in the gift shop for ages. I came out of it feeling quite confident despite knowing they have a lot of people to interview today. I didn't have much time to dwell on it, though, because I had to get to an enrolment information session at RMIT. I don't think I ended up mentioning it here, but I got an offer to study there as well and after much soul searching I decided to go for it. So today I officially became an RMIT student - classes begin on February 10th and I cannot wait to get started.
I headed home after that to try and relax, when really I was anxiously awaiting a call from the National Trust. Luckily for me, when the call finally came it was good news - I've been offered the job, assuming all sorts of admin things get sorted out at an induction session on Friday. I was so happy I actually did a little dance in my room - the sheer relief of finally being employed combined with getting a job I actually want just made me ecstatic.
We took Mum out for dinner for what ended up being a pretty epic celebration - her birthday, my employment and my future studies at RMIT. We ate at Jimmy Grants in Fitzroy, which was awesome and noisy and very casual. Perfect for us!
It feels like things are finally falling into place - I really can't wait for what the next year or so brings. Hopefully wonderful things!
In defence of this photo: my lens is broken! It just won't focus, on manual or auto. So this is a very blurry photo, but there's something quite lovely about it anyway. It seemed appropriate to have a portrait of Mama today so I'm going to have to accept the terrible quality!
