Unconventional.....

but very good.

My daughter and I had another very unconventional Thanksgiving. We had a nice dinner at a restaurant, finished with the warm apple strudel with ice cream pictured -- delicious, and then we went to a most unconventional movie, which I won't name -- it was that unconventional. All in all, we had a very nice time together, but then we usually do. Thanksgiving is always a bittersweet event for us now so we try to make it different and fun. As families do, ours has changed over the years and the two of us have had the most difficulty dealing with the changes. For the last few years, it's been just us trying to establish our own tradition. We do have a lot to be thankful for and we're pretty good at keeping each other from sinking into self-pity but we really, really miss having the traditional family gathering at Thanksgiving with all the cooking and commotion. Next year we may try hot dogs in the park and another unconventional movie, but whatever we do, we'll have each other and for me that's the best part.
