Let's talk about soft tennis
Soft tennis. What? Japan seems to have something against grass so school soccer teams play on dirt. But, they aren't alone, so do (most) tennis players, excuse me, soft tennis players.
Soft tennis is tennis played on a dirt court that kids maintain by dragging a heavy stone dirt-flattener around it every once in awhile. But when it rains, there are huge puddles on the dirt, now mud, so if they play there footprints are dried into the dirt, making it even more uneven and needing of another flattening.
Soft tennis balls are really squishy and soft. The racket is the same, but the ball is completely different. I haven't hit one with a racket so I can't say how different that is though.
There are some regular tennis players, but usually not at the junior high level unless they play privately. I haven't seen too many regular clay tennis courts since I've been here.
