Echidna
Like a living fossil, the exceedingly odd echidna.
An egg laying mammal. A monotreme. A distant branch in the mammalian evolutionary tree linking mammals and reptiles. A giant anteater with spikes, a pouch and a long nose. One for the cabinet of curiosities.
We saw this guy off the road in Wilson's Promontory National Park, Victoria.
