Light Box Experiment II - Study in Green
At a loss for something to blip this morning, I couldn’t believe my luck when I noticed a shield bug that had evidently come in to the house on several hydrangea blossoms that I wanted to dry for flower arrangements. Great, I thought – this will be something to experiment with in the new light box, so I cut a couple ivy leaves to provide background. Well, this is the result – I think now that the light box isn’t for close ups like this. It’s more to highlight an item with plenty of the chosen background showing.
This insect is a shield bug, otherwise known as a stink bug. The description says it has glands between it’s 2nd & 3rd legs that emit a foul smelling liquid which might be used as defense or if handled carelessly. Whew! Glad I treated him well! I wonder if those are his eyes sticking out of either side of his head.
Otherwise I had another cardinal at the feeder and a two-fer of squirrels in trees, but decided to post this ‘experiment’ just for something totally different. Back to the drawing board…
