Library

This is my library in Wilson. The books on the left are ones I read for my own peace of mind, but also to share quotes with the team. The books on the right are my own journals I write in each day. I am asking the girls on the team to keep a basketball journal, so I'm practicing right along with them.

I've been giving the girls a quote each day, a concluding thought at the end of practice. The girls call them the "Chinese Fortune Cookie" quote, because they're on tiny little slips of paper. Today, I gave them one from Rudyard Kipling's "Second Jungle Book":

"Now this is the Law of the Jungle -
as old and true as the sky;
And the Wolf that shall keep it may prosper,
but the Wolf that shall break it must die.
As the creeper that girdles the tree trunk,
the Law runneth forward and back -
For the strength of the Pack is the Wolf,
and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack."

The girls loved this one. Phil Jackson used to give his teams this quote with the Bulls and the Lakers when he coached them. I guess he is who I aspire to. To be known as the Zen Master...I'll take that. Zen Master Pops.
