A Monkey's Tale

Wembley

England v Germany.

Can there honestly be a friendly between these teams? In any case, that was what this clash of the titans was. Set at the incredible & huge-mongous Wembley stadium, in front of a mammoth 85,000 fans, football did commence. It wasn't the best of the beautiful game I'd ever seen, England that is, Germany were good, pretty nifty with the ball. Jack & me had good seats, with a view of the entire pitch & the whole round, as you can see. We were in high spirits, along with the rest of the crowd, not least 'cos this was my very first England football match. It was fairly good game, England had some chances, but failed to clinch goals, or a goal even, through lack of confidence or passion. And with that Germany set about crafting the win. They will undoubtedly be a force to be reckoned with if they get any better, & with an equally young & fresh faced team, England will hope for something similar. We'll have to see though... Germany were deserved winners, but to be honest it was just a shame there weren't more goals. At least then the crowd wouldn't have been so easily distracted with in-fighting & squabbling, which so often seems to be the case. Good fun though!

Earlier on the day, as Jack & me had made an afternoon of it, treating ourselves to half days at work, we'd grabbed lunch at an American take-out restaurant called Five Guys. It specialises in stomach-busting, calorie-loaded, mind-boggling burgers, with an array of unhealthy & healthy toppings, which together with fries (the small of which could feed a family of 6 easy!) & the unlimited gallons of fizzy pops, left me very quickly contemplating it's return journey & considering a long nap in a dark room. Having said that, it was incredible though & I would urge you to go. Next time, I might look to share. And I love my food, so I don't say that lightly.

To walk off our beastly burgers we then took a mooch around the beautiful & buzzing Covent Garden. We watched the street performers, we perused some of the shops, Jack got himself some thermals as it was rather brisk! (to say the least!) & we retired to the Punch & Bowl pub, to the balcony with a pint, to watch the action unfold around us & to see the glow of the Christmas lights rise & twinkle against the darkening night's sky.

A great laugh, a great day & rather knackering too. Thankfully, a whole day off tomorrow!
