Scotland Day

Headed along to Katara Cultural Village tonight for 'Scotland Day', a celebration of all things Scotland in partnership with the UK Qatar Year of Culture 2013.

Being in Qatar only 2 weeks, I was in two minds whether or not to go. Whilst being a patriotic Scot, my main desire at the moment is to get to know middle eastern cultures rather than remind myself of what I'm missing back home!

Despite the billing, the event (ceilidh band & dancing) was only on from 6.30-9.30 and having turned up at 7.30 to find the auditorium packed out (seemingly it had a 400 seat capacity!), I had to make do with the side show out in the lobby. However, they were serving strawberry shortbread appetisers and irn bru and I got chatting to someone from SDI who gave me a Scotland pin for my troubles :)

Definitely going to go back to Katara in the daylight for some more photos. Despite being very artificial, they have built a beautiful mosque and outside auditorium which are certainly both very photogenic. Watch this space!
