This little village has recently been rebuilt after lying derelict for 50 years. The local mountains were a stronghold for the ‘Marquis’ guerrillas up to the 1950s and they used ransom money to force the villagers to provide them with supplies so the government ordered the villagers to leave everything behind. Only the Civil Guard remained hunting for the guerrillas in the ‘lost village’ which then fell into ruins for 50 years until a former resident, Antonia, set about rebuilding and modernising the former houses. He and his family run a bar with the most delicious food and it was a very welcome lunch break in today’s walk.
