All the Little Lights
One weekend, four cities.
Oxford on Fri to see Becky and Vaish, Derby to see Richard and Anand and Emma, a trip to Nottingham for the Glee Club and then Manchester on Sunday.
Woke up to a lovely sunny morning and piled into Anand's car to head for Manchester. For some reason the satnav took us a very long and winding way, which did not matter in the slightest, seeing as the country road scenery was so beautiful in the sunshine, accompanied by music and idle chatter. After a quick stop in a Tesco cafe for lunch, Anand headed off to the football while Richard, Emma and I went for a very pleasant wander around the city centre, not really seeing very much but just walking and talking and enjoying exploring a new city. We rounded off our wanderings with a couple of cocktails and some very deep (and scary) talk about that great unknown expanse: the future. Conclusions? Life is incredibly scary, but presents many exciting and wonderful opportunities, so should simply be grabbed by the horns and not worried about. Whether anyone has every grabbed anything by the horns without worrying about possible unfavourable consequences (i.e. being galled by aforementioned horns in the process) is questionable, but the good intent is there!
A long drive back (via the motorway this time) before very gratefully settling into bed with the boy for a good night's sleep. The picture is of the view out of Richard's window - all the lights of Derby shining into the dark.
