Absent Voices: work in progress...

Greenock girl and Absent Voices artist, Anne McKay, never stops.

This shows a wee selection of her sketches over the past weekend in preparation for bigger artworks she has planned. It's all inspired by the Sugar Sheds.

Themes include; the role of horses in the sugar industry, slavery, ox bones burned to make charcoal, bullock's blood, the spirits within sheds, sugar cane, cranes, finding love, the temptation of sugar, the graft and the death of sugar industry.

If you are interested, Anne and fellow Absent Voices artist, Rod Miller, will be leading Drawing Tours at the Greenock Sugar Sheds this Saturday (Nov 16th) and next Saturday (Nov 23rd)from 11am until approximately 2pm.

Art materials will be provided and both events are FREE.

This is open to anyone who has an interest in drawing and in Greenock's heritage.

The theme is Walking in the footsteps of Stanley Spencer and Joan Eardley, who left an important historical legacy and images of industrial Inverclyde from the 1940s.
