Weston-Super-Mud!

Finally time to sit down after a very busy couple of days!

Friday afternoon we headed off to Weston-Super-Mare, known affectionately as Weston-Super-Mud as the tide is usually so far out that to get to the sea requires trudging across treacherous mud flats!

Leaving home in torrential rain, Lady Luck was with us for once, and as we arrived in Weston the sun came out from behind the clouds. We were in town for the annual Weston Illuminated Carnival, part of the North Somerset Carnival circuit, and the largest illuminated carnival in the world! It was a fantastic evening, with a procession of floats over two miles long, lasting two hours, and despite the forecast, it didn't start to rain again until we got back to the car! How lucky were we?!!

(My night time carnival shots were rather disappointing, so instead I've plumped for the sun setting over Brean Down, taken from the new Weston Grand Pier, after the previous pier burnt to the ground in 2008.)
