What you lookin' at?
A very enjoyable day! After another hearty breakfast at our hotel by the Little Ouse (including a kingfisher sighting at no extra cost) we bade farewell to our host, whose maiden name was coincidentally the same as my married name, and headed down to Thetford. We went to the BTO's only reserve at Nunnery Lakes, and spent a great morning seeing a great variety of birds and wildlife, including a marsh tit which could have been No. 158, but I draw the line at poking my long lens into someone's garden. We saw jays, cormorants, egret (possibly another great white, but flew off before we got a proper sighting), long tailed tits, Canada, Greylag and Egyptian geese, tufted duck, little grebe, great spotted woodpecker, quite a few nice photogenic fungi, but how could I resist this pair of muntjac deer peering out at us from the undergrowth?
We are now ensconced in our home for the coming week, right on the marshes of the North Norfolk Coast, as recommended by a fellow blipper. We drove across to the supermarket in Hunstanton to get in supplies for the week and by that time, the weather had turned pretty grim, but now we are cosy and dry waiting for our Indian to cook. I seem be having a problem with the wifi signal, so not sure if/when this will get posted. Fingers crossed....
