Margitsziget

Our first day in Budapest started with an afternoon on Margaret Island, as it was within walking distance of our apartment in the 13th district. It's basically a big park in the middle of the Danube with an open air theatre, water park, bars and food stalls, and very popular with Budapest people, that is on a sunny day when they are all open which of course on a drizzly November day they weren't. Let's just say it was very peaceful. We did enjoy the musical fountain though, which lights up when it gets dusk, and coffee and cake in a fabulous art deco restaurant on the way back.
