A mono blip for a grey day. Infact it's so dark the street lights came on around 1.30pm.

With no desire to go hunting for colour today I took a few shots of the silver birch tree in the garden. It grew from seed about 30 years ago and as it was on the same line as the hedge we let it grow... and grow... and grow.

A few years ago, concerned about roots and stability we called in a local tree specialist and he declared it fine for another 50 years.

Late afternoon yesterday there was a cold calling 'tree surgeon' at the door. He made reference to the silver birch and I explained we had the all clear.
"Oh yes" he said. "It's a fine specimen, but it will look just as good with the top third chopped off".

I showed him the gate!
