Finest thing that you ever did see

My first job after qualifying was as an Assistant Manager in a Bar Restaurant, the first of hopefully a chain.

We were thrown directly in at the deep end. Furnitures, fittings, tiles on the bathroom, table cloths, recruitment, training, plumbing.... you name it, we did it.

One of the directors' American wife was "creating" the menu. (And I say "American Wife", as opposed to his Scottish Wife for two he did have). She basically took the menu of an American Bar Diner Chain and rebranded it.

We talked her out of "Gobble Gobble" for the Turkey Club, and added "Helen's" to the Tuna Salad. "Apple Pie A La Mode" Stuck. She said it meant "Out Side".

We were serving Apple Pie "Outside" apparently; which was interesting since we didn't have an outside. But hey, if it made her happy.

This, for today, is my Rhubarb Tart A La Mode. I didn't eat it outside, that would have been silly since it was raining and a bit windy. But it was lovely at my desk.
