This is Simon Halmshaw, who agreed to have his photo taken tonight for the whenyoureastranger project. He had the task of cooking and carving the beef for the Butcher's Gild Ladies Feast at the Merchant Taylor's Hall in York which hubby and I had the pleasure of attending along with our daughter and son-in-law and his parents, some relatives and friends. Ed's family were butchers in York and he, his brother and dad have retained the family connection by being active members of the Gild which is one of the oldest in York, having been established in mediaeval times, with an unbroken history from then until now. It was a wonderful event, in a most historic setting, with good food, good company and entertainment, a very different way of spending a Saturday evening but one we'd like to repeat some day!
