Taking the Black Pig to Sea.
Here is one of the Royal Navy nuclear submarines, gently, inconspicuously making way down the river. I always think of the families of the men who serve who are totally cut off when these ships are on patrol, my friends fiancée is a submariner a doctor of the fleet and I know how hard she finds it when he is away not knowing where he is or indeed when he will be home.
I also go to thinking today what would happen to the Clyde Submarine base if Scotland votes for independence next year. I am pretty A-political although having a BA in Law and Politics as my first degree and an LLB I have a keen interest in the whole legal and constitutional aspect of this exercise.
How would we defend our coast and airspace? There are so many questions like this that I don't think anyone can answer fully that the rhetoric now seems to be clouding the facts. Do we need independence, do we want independence would it be a better country or would there be a brain drain leading to economic crisis? all food for thought by wiser men than me I venture.
I hope you enjoy this shot, a familiar sight in our waters but alien to so many.
