Why are we sitting here?

The Fairy Glen

The expression on Poppy's face says it all! This is just the start of our walk and all the dogs wanted to do was get on with the important things in life, exploring, sniffing, paddling, chasing each other, chewing sticks, etc. but I wanted to take this photo. I think these roots are amazing and I needed the dogs there to illustrate the sheer scale, they did get reimbursed for their wasted time in dog currency (tuna fudge) so were quite happy in the end.

The tree is growing above a clearing just back from the burn, the bank behind is quite steep and the earth around the exposed roots is packed hard. The geology of the Fairy Glen is described as "interesting" and has something to do with "sand pillars", which are apparently extremely rare in Britain. Not being a geologist I cannot explain any more than that. All I know is it is a beautiful place to walk with steep banks, a tinkling burn, a number of waterfalls and, as I believe I have said before in other blips, the dogs love it.
