Sheep's Head Way 9: Ahakista to Durrus

A backblip - far too much going on yesterday.
The grey lifted the sun shone, we took to the hills for the next leg of the Sheep's Head Way Walk, starting in Ahakista and heading to Durrus A long walk but an interesting one over rusty coloured moorland, down little green boreens, through squelchy bogs, and emerald green pastures.
We saw:
a waterfall
a stone circle
lots of loughs
masses of interesting fungi
a forlorn neglected cilleen where unbaptised children used to be buried
a ringfort perched a top a little hill
a fierce dog
an old mansion house now embraced by ivy
an estuary, the tide way out
We treated ourselves to a late lunch in Durrus.
Home and a shower, and then I joined TJ to attend the Removal of a young man who had been tragically killed in a road accident. A removal seems to be a very Irish thing. It's like a wake I suppose for the coffin is present - in this case in a village hall, and people file passed to pay their respects, to the deceased and to the family members - the men stand up and the women sit. This young man was a much loved member of the community, as were his parents. There were literally hundreds of people qeueing to pay their respects. TJ and I knew his father from when we used to do set dancing, we just wanted to give him a hug. I don't know how you get through this. His father would have been standing for a least four hours, it seems like an ordeal but maybe later it helps to know that you were so supported.
We returned home and had a large glass of wine and some chilli prepared by Himself, then mananged a very productive couple of hours getting our card sets organised.
Wrecked by the end of it all, physically and emotionally.

And thanks for the fantastic response to my Pixie Party - the fungi are now offically confirmed by Ceridwen and Mollyblobs as Snowy Waxcaps and I won't argue with that.
