Back to explore the stelae field this morning. Here is Sarah climbing down into the Tomb of the False Door.

This tomb dates from the 4th century AD and was discovered by archaeologists in 1972, although grave robbers had found it centuries before and judging by the lengths to which they went to gain access, must have made off with some serious treasure.

The stelae predate the arrival of Christianity in Ethiopia, but this tomb shows evidence of Christian burial.
