A box of memories.
My father was in the Royal Navy and among other posts, served on submarines as a Chief Petty Officer for fourteen years. When he came out of the Navy he worked for a company that made mining machinery, and his job was to repair their machinery, so again he travelled the world to gold, diamond and various other mines. This Cedar wood box was collected on his travels and in it my parents kept odds and ends that were dear to them. There are their identity cards needed in wartime, two brooches with submarines on,a brooch my father bought when I was born with 'baby' on it, a heart shape with a picture of my Dad in uniform, a jet brooch, a book of matches from the 1935 Silver Jubilee,a brass cat on a ribbon that helped me teeth, and some money(a Queen Victoria penny dated 1901, a three penny piece 1940, a halfpenny 1937,a farthing 1860 and a silver sixpence 1937). What a lot of memories these small objects gave them and I'm so pleased to have them now.
