On the Hoof

Hoof Fungus - Fomes fomentarius
I'd always intended to join the walking group I'm involved with on a fungus-themed walk today. In the event, I found myself as the "expert" as Ziggy, the official expert had cried off ill. It was an enjoyable walk, the weather was kind, there was a lot to see, and the participants were all very positive and said they enjoyed it very much. The only downside was that it was almost impossible to take photographs when the walk leader hurried along, and when we did stop, I was on explaining duty. There were a couple of lovely groups of fungi that a quick shot didn't do justice to.
The lady who spotted this fungus and said it looked just like a hoof. She asked me what it was called and when I said Hoof Fungus, thought I was winding her up.
