Nellie the Elephant Packed her Trunk.......
......and ran away from the circus, along with all the other animals!
Billy Smart's Circus was the greatest touring circus in the 50-60's. They stopped touring in 1971, but carried on doing TV shows and a special in Windsor Great Park for the Queen's Silver Jubilee. Now they are proud to be touring again in a modern compact version with no animals but speciality acts from all over the world and of course, the ever popular clowns which the children love. The Circus as we know it was invented in London in 1768 and throughout it's history it has adapted and changed, the 'No Animals' rule being the main difference these days. If the grandchildren visit maybe I shall see the show. It opens today on Midsummer Common, Cambridge.
A very wet day, so I didn't stay out for long.
