Equus Altus

Mr H and I went to Leeds today, the first time in about three years! We went with no particular purpose, but having heard many good reports about the Trinity shopping centre which opened in March this year, we obviously had a look. As shopping centres go I was quite impressed . Shop wise they seemed to all be major chains, and nothing quirky or individual , but the design of the centre was impressive. It was so great to be able to see outside, and be aware of the weather, unlike most of these modern shopping centres. For me though the art work was the most exciting thing about it all and I thought this pack horse was brilliant, and just waiting to be blipped! See below what I found on the internet about it...

Equus Altus, a sculpture of a packhorse carrying a roll of cloth, dominates the central court, by Scottish sculptor Andy Scott. Packhorses were used to transport goods, in particular cloth, to and from Leeds: the artist said "My thoughts behind it were about the history of Leeds and the wool and textile industries and how horses were used as the HGV at the time". Equus Altus is 5 metres (16 ft) tall, weighs 2 tonnes, and stands on a 10 metres (33 ft) steel column.
