the gift of presence

Our peach tree did not produce much fruit this year. The late snow in the spring nipped a lot of it in the bud - literally. Then the squirrels ate the stunted little fruits that did manage to grow. So no peaches from this tree for us this year.
And yet, it still brings me so much pleasure. It is a haven for many birds, especially house finches like this one, as they take turns at the bird feeder. Its leaves make a lovely rustling sound in the wind, and are now turning beautiful yellows and oranges.
I am just glad to have the peach tree so nearby.
And that is a good reminder that our life is not so much about what we produce, but about being present for others.
