Iceland Day 5: Homeward Bound

After a late night it was an early morning, up and packing bags in time for a 6am breakfast. By 7am we had our bags loaded onto the bus and were headed toward Akureyri. We made a stop off at Goðafoss, the Waterfall of the heathen Gods. When Christianity was brought to Iceland, statues of the Norse gods were thrown into the waterfall. At 30m wide and 12m high it is nowhere near as grand in size as Dettifoss but very beautiful all the same. I hobbled off the bus, had a look, took a couple of snaps and hobbled back on whilst everyone else enjoyed the view.

Once in Akureyri it was another tiny little prop plane flight to Reykjavik. Before our flight home we had a tour of the city, the first stop for our bus was the pharmacy to pick me up a prescription of strong pain meds. We then visited all the sights that we saw in 2011 (I think my body must hate this tour as I was injured then too).

All too soon we were on our way to the airport again. Arriving at the check in desk almost in tears we were quickly given a wheelchair, completely plastic so I didn't even have to get up to go through security. We were also greeted by one at Heathrow too. It was such a relief to have the weight off my foot!

We were staying overnight in Windsor with family friends who came to collect us from the airport.
