Autumn has arrived - official

Woke up to a light covering of snow. Took some photos at 7:00 from the sitting room window but quite boring. Then around 8:00 spotted deer near the bee hives and managed a very poor photo which is on my bee journal. Dressed up as though it was -10°C, went for a walk with the dogs for whom winter & snow is the most exciting time of year and the mouse holes a constant source of interest. Angie returned from her speech therapy session and then I seemed to collapse - feeling motivated with lots to do but zero energy. Will have to get myself to the GP next week for iron and Vit. B jabs. Don't think it was the weather as the sun came out midday and it was at 5°C not that cold.

Late afternoon Angie went for a ride with Sultan and the dogs but also taking old boy Asyr on a lead. Apparently the two horses had a splendid time and really enjoyed several slow relaxed canters. Last night was their first night back in their stalls and they no doubt enjoyed lying down in straw.

Meanwhile I put the chickens to bed, a bit of a chore as we have been trying to get them to sleep in their coup rather than outdoors which they have done for months. Noticed one of the 3 very young chicks had been abandoned outside and was so cold that it didn't have the strength to jump the stair in to the roofed area. Took it in my hands and saw how weak it was and started a warm up action, eventually taking it indoors for scrambled egg and porridge. Later when Angie got back, collected it's two sisters/brothers and gave them all a feed and they will spend the night in the house but in an unnheated room less they get too used to warmth. The weakest one (yellow/brown) was very perky after the snack and will hopefully survive. Flash is responsible for herding the chickens in the evening - whenever we take one in our hands he fixates them and won't leave them. He doesn't do anthing but is on total alert to make sure they don't try to break out. Angie insisted he got Bliped with the chicks and I wanted to record the snow, so we had to go with the collage again.

So MissWinterFinch and Angelique - you are now permitted to use the "A" word. On 19th September I mentioned the winter weather forecast made by a 71 year old according to the flowering of plants. He was 100% right about the snow and now it should get warmer again. Last year on 19th October we had over 25°C. So looking forward now to what the Germans call a Golden October.
