I enjoyed listening to Seychellois people speaking Creole, a kind of sunnier, simpler version of French, I guess a bit like pigin (though strictly-speaking I gather this is a second language not a mother tongue).
But once marooned in the luxury penitentiary which is the Hilton Labriz Resort, it was a little difficult to tell it apart from any other five star beach paradise.
Luckily the old plantation house has been lovingly restored and serves up a memorable feast tinging with crushed chillies, ginger and garlic, and washed down with a lip-smackng rhum arrangé - a real Creole treat.
