Marjorie's ramblings

Day 4, Haltwhistle Walking Festival

Today I led the walk from Sewingshields Farm. It was a circular that went west along Hadrian's Wall Trail, then north on the Pennine Way, then east through woods and along a ridge in wild, isolated country, before finally turning north again and back to the Wall. The reason it's such a good walk is because you enjoy the Wall Trail first, then you look back and see the structure of the crags you were walking on. Hadrian's Wall must have been very impressive when first built.

There were 13 of us, a lovely group of folk, and we had a very pleasant time. Apart from the wind there were no weather challenges and no one fell into a bog either.

Violet was persuaded to tell one or two local legends and even told the joke about the rum and water. Given that she is strictly teetotal this was quite a surprise.

Arth moaned most of the way so I'm planning on an early night and a short walk tomorrow. Sold a few calendars today too.

PS Thank goodness for RAW. I'd managed to knock the control to manual and took a few quick shots during the walk without realising. (Always check the histogram - I know.......) This was significantly to the right but I've been able to rescue it fairly well.
