here to stay

Growing up I learned that seeing an American Robin was the first sign of Spring. Now I've learned they never really leave the States over winter. Some go as far north as Canada during the summer, and some go as far south as Mexico in the winter, but the USA has them all year round.
I wonder what got that old wives' tale started :-)
