The Art Of Protest

Late night journey to Toronto to join masses of visitors to the annual Nuit Blanche festivities. TV news warned that more than a million people would be present - and, judging by the shoulder-to-shoulder crowds packing the streets and roads from Union Station to City Hall and north to Dundas Square, I'd be inclined to believe it.

So, how good were the light displays? Well, not as impressive as the amount of people. The top-billed display, Forever Bicycles, 3,144 neatly stacked silver bikes, would have looked better without the competing lights from surrounding high-rise hotels and some of the other stuff was, well, boring. And the crowds!!!

Here's a bit of real street art, from the corner of Dundas Square. A native protester stands astride a coupe of newspaper boxes waving his flags while his pal tries to make his point through an ineffective loudhailer. The noise of the crowd made his efforts worthless . . .

Better BIGGER

PS And here's a pic of one of the EXHIBITS
