Shopping day

Angie left early in pouring rain to visit a flea market in Ottobeuren. Managed to pick up the odd item. Returned to walk the dogs and wait for Kathi to return the horse trailer as we had to drive the 40km to Ochsenhausen to pick up some bits & pieces. Took the opportunity to pick some apples on the side of the road (top left) for the horses and having the trailer and passing through Memmingen, we stopped off at a pet store "Fressnapf" (literally: Food-bowl). Made use of the free filling station of dried food and water and the scales: Flash 34.7kg, Luna 17.1kg. Flash is very heavy boned and fat has a traditional Bavarian Beer Belly. Borders tend to be poor eaters, ours are and we had to give them the dog biscuits one by one by hand. Then past the rows of cooked bones, pigs ears, horse lungs etc which seemed to smell good to them but they didn't try to take any, coming to the toys and especially the squeaky ones but again they didn't take anything out. Only when I saw the toy shelf photo on the PC did I notice the huge Border collie poster at the back of the shop!

So ended a relatively cheap shop with lots of cat food on special offer and just two bags of pigs ears. Then to Aldi to buy the dog food! Yes Aldi, who have just again been rated by Austrian "Which?" the best dried dog food on the market closely followed by Lidl (both costing 20 cents/day) and then Royal Canin at 1.10 Euros/day. German "Which?" had the same result in 2010.

Eventually back home as it got dark with apples for the horses, Whiskas dried food & Fressnapf tins for the cats and lots of Aldi dried food for the dogs. Chickens got a sack of maize yesterday! So while all the animals had full bellies this evening, Angie and I scoured the fridge for left overs.

Going to Aldi/Lidl & Co is a major event for us country yokels. One thinks twice about popping over to the supermarket for a bag of sugar when it means a 50km round trip. I guess there are probably some Zumerset yokels who have the same problems. Difference is, for most of my route I could legally drive at 200mph+, but the law says max 50mph with trailer. In Zumerset they have cars that only get in to third gear above 200mph but roads that only allow 50mph. Time we swapped motors, MrsA (got a towing bracket on the Beast?). Sure MrA would feel more at home as a country squire sitting in an SUV.

Mixed weather day with a spectacular sunset over Aldi which should have been my Blip but off limits due to Blonde Twinkle's monopoly. Hope you all have a great SUN-day
