TORNADO

Another grand steam special for you all today. Meet 60163 Tornado, pulling traditional blood and custard rail coaches.

On the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, this is the start of the LNER Weekend. It is the first time ever that two preserved LNER Pacific Locomotives – 60163 Tornado and 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley - have been run together in blue livery. Normally Tornado has a green BR livery.

For the enthusiasts - Tornado is a mainline steam locomotive built in Darlington, England. Completed in 2008, Tornado was the first such locomotive built in the UK since Evening Star, the last ever steam locomotive built by British Railways in 1960.

It is the only example of a LNER Peppercorn Class A1 class locomotive in existence, as all the original engines produced have been scrapped without preservation.
Tornado was named at York station in May 2009 and shows the badge of RAF Leeming in Yorkshire, where RAF Tornado F3 jet planes were based.

Hope you all have a grand and most enjoyable weekend.
