Burnt Mountain
Backblip #15
Burnt Mountain - not nearly worthy of being called a mountain (it's not very high!) and not a particularly fascinating spot to visit. But I just love the colours in this panorama shot. The nearby organ pipes were quite interesting too before making my way to Twyfelfontein itself. Home to some very impressive rock engravings and paintings done by the bushman thousands of years ago. The Twyfelfontein site was given World Unesco Heritage status a few years back and is definitely warranted.
After possibly ruining my little vw's suspension on some very dodgysecyions of road on the way in, I opted to head outon a different road and pass by the petrified forest - got sucked in by a fake sign initially but eventually made it to the real site! Here I got to also see the very cool desert welwitschia plants that can live for hundreds of years on very little water.
Then onwards north towards Etosha! Tonight I stay just outside the southern Andersson Gate at Etosha Safari Lodge, ready for a full day of wildlife spotting tomorrow. Met a lovely Canadian couple who also invited me to eat dinner with them :-)
Day 2 - Total distance traveled - 770km.
