Toronto Day 2
After long discussions about what we would do for the weekend, Tierney and I decided to go camping, to see some proper Canada. We looked at the national parks in the 2 hour vicinity, and settled upon one called Awenda on Lake Huron, north of Toronto. So we packed up the car with everything that could possibly be of use, and set off on a camping adventure. The drive was along busy highways and a few pretty roads, and I kept a keen eye out for the changing autumnal colours. We knew it would be a little early, but hoped to see some at least. There were a few patches here and there of vivid colours, and I used my imagination to expand them further.
We arrived, found our campsite, set up the tent and started out for an explore of the park. It was mid afternoon, so we knew we couldn't have too long before it was dinner and dark time, but we made our first stop the beach. The idea was that we would then walk around to an area recommended as having a good view out over the water. But, of course, it was just too beautiful by the water and we spent a good hour with our feet in the water, gazing out at the blue skies and clear water. Eventually we reluctantly left to head back to camp.
It took some time but eventually we got the fire going, through pure skill and finesse, cooked dinner, then made s'mores, and sat staring up at the stars. I'd had s'mores before, but they weren't completely proper - there weren't any graham crackers, whereas these were made with all the proper ingredients and around a proper campfire. Mmmmm. Delicious. The campsites around us were mostly empty, with just a couple of fires visible through the trees, and there were no artificial lights, so the stars were bright and it seemed wrong to do anything but look at them.
