ANY LUCK YET?

I spied this Great Blue Heron by the electric company’s water works at the fish ladder this morning. He appeared to be intently watching the current, probably hoping for a nice fish for lunch. I wondered whether he could withstand the current right there because it is incredibly fast & strong – you can see it thundering through the grate behind him. This structure is right beside the dam and waterfall on the river. He looks quite healthy and his feathers were beautiful, so he must be faring well. I went there hoping to spot even one salmon jumping up the ladder – he was probably there for the same reason! Hope he had better luck than I did!

Great Blue Heron living east of the Rocky Mountains are migratory - they winter in Central America and South America. (Those residing in the southern United States and the Pacific coast are year-round residents.) This fellow will probably be leaving soon for a warmer climate.
