GET OFF OUR PROPERTY!

Now that the cardinals have increased in number with their young finally able to also fly to the feeder, they’ve been quite obvious about staking it out as THEIRS. It’s been so interesting – and fun - to watch. On this rainy morning, over and over again other birds (nuthatches, titmouses etc.) would fly at the feeder in hopes of landing long enough to snatch up a seed, but these cardinals would puff up or squawk to scare them away. This would go on for several minutes at a time, then everyone would leave and it would be quiet awhile, only to have the scenario repeated again a bit later. You can see one in the tree, one in front and one peeking over the seed from behind. For some reason, the cardinals allowed this tufted titmouse to stay a few seconds - a long time by their standards. He was quite brave to even try it! I couldn't resist another 'birds at the feeder' blip again today - I wanted to show them staking out their territory.
