The Pole

Yesterday a new version of "The Totem Pole" or "The Pole" or "The Monkey Puzzle" or "The Apparatus" was officially unveiled with hundreds attending the function. Tonight I revisited on my own so I could fully feel its beauty and sense of purpose. It is both beautiful and sad.... Lovely to see the freshly laid flowers laid on the marker for Ronan and David who, two years ago, chose to use a rope to tie themselves together so both could live or both could die...Both families could grieve with or without a body..together....and sad to see the markers without a flower.... The RNLI laid a wreath for those who had no one to stand by them.... Names of people who will come to life again as we read their names and think of them. Men and women of the parish who died at sea both near and far..... I sat alone and read their names....and thought of them.....Today I thought of the living and the pain they endure for others and wondered why no monument for them.....Those who do without so others they cherish can prosper and grow strong....The parents....the families....the friends..... I can only nurture the Monument in my Heart for them........ today I prayed my friend would be ok......just saying
