Sea Otters

Privileged to see a plethora of wildlife on this trip. All in all an uplifting experience to know that there are some normal places where wildlife has not been entirely obliterated, and that are so easy to come by. Today we set out from San Luis Obispo with the rough outline plan of following the PCH north to Monterey. Having remembered reading something about Morro Bay in a guide book, we took an early morning detour for a stroll on the beach by Morro Rock and a coffee watching the sea lions on the pier. As we were about to leave we noticed a small crowd of people with cameras by the shore. A family of sea otters were relaxing in the kelp beds, floating on their backs just 10m from the shore line. Having planned on watching them at Monterey Bay Aquarium, it was an unexpected pleasure to see them in the wild.
