Snails' Paradise

Damage to my hostas this year. The whole of all 3 plants are in the same state. I blame the snails as I can see huge numbers of them around here, and indeed all my garden. I really wish there were lots of thrushes to provide a natural solution to the snails, but there don't seem to be any, though they are made up for by dreadful numbers of magpies, which, in addition to their damage to other birds, make a noise which I find particularly stressful.
