Masai Warriors in Defensive Grouping
Something quite different today, a still life of a wooden statuette of Masai Warriors in a defensive mode. The piece belongs to my friend, Eric who bought it some years ago in Tanzania. In response to a totally flat lighting situation ie. leaden skies, we decided to attempt a still life in his conservatory. While this gave excellent modelling on the heads of the warriors I encountered some problems at the base as we had decided to use white drawing paper under the statuette to reflect some light from the base. This unfortunately gave me a lighter base than the top which was totally unbalanced the image and I had to do some work in Photoshop to reverse this.
The artistry and aesthehtics are wholly attributable to craftsman who carved. My role has solely been to present it in attractive way.
