A gullywasher of a day
Would I have loved to have a blip of all that rain coming down?
Yes.
Do I?
No. This late night squirt in the sink will have to suffice as a reminder of today.
It started out as a lovely, steady rain that gently murmered: good morning, good morning, time to rise, shine and greet the day...
By noon it had morphed into a slightly less gentle downpour but I was still thrilled for not having to water the dry garden today.
By one-thirty I had all my tools and beads packed up to walk to my neighbor's house where we had a jewelry-making day planned for her six year old, one of my favorite little people in the world.
We were just putting the finishing touches on a necklace when she asked: What is that sound? Followed by: I think it's the tornado sirens. To which I replied: It's Wednesday but it's not 1:00 pm (weekly tornado siren test)
There were tornado warnings out for our area, a touchdown north of us and some damaging straight line winds just south of us.
We both agreed it best if we cut the session short and I head home in case it was head-for-the-basement time. I walked out just as the heavens opened up with a vengeance. Were it not for the sirens still going off, I would have hopped and skipped and splashed all the way home. Instead, I ran down the alley, up to my ankles in water.
Now I look outside and there is almost no evidence of it. It's all drained away into the Mississippi and is probably halfway to St. Louis by now.
Amazing.
