THROUGH/TRUE STONE.

These sculptures are by Damian Ortega 2012. Sculpted in mineralized acrylic polymer, mixed media. They can be seen in Jesus College First Court, it is part of the Sculpture in the Close Exhibition, but are not there permanently, unlike some of the other works of art. This assemblage is characteristic of theMexican artist's....." playful exploration of the relationship between language and materials, 'Through' and 'True' being near- homophones ( same sounding words) From one angle looking like natural shaped rocks, while from another they are revealed as artefacts enclosing perfectly cylindrical columns of air. What had seemed solid is now empty, heaviness becoming illusory..." This statement is from the brochure. They usually change the sculptures in September so I thought I would blip it before it was moved.
