No markets today!
Yesterday we were at L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue. Today we went to find the source of the river Sorgue at Fontaine-de-Vaucluse. A beautiful day to walk by the river and sit by the river, but no fountain today.
In the same place is a restored paper mill - Moulin à Papier Vallis Clausa, a relic from a past when there were several paper mills in the village, all powered by the river Sorgue. Here is the water wheel that turns a camshaft to lift alternately 15 large stampers. These pound rags to a white pulp, which is then used to make the paper.
I love making paper myself and was fascinated by seeing all the processes used here to make the paper by hand.
