Stay on the Paths…
… or risk getting into very hot water. These are hot mud springs and steam vents in the Hverir geothermal field -- one of the many scenic tourist sites Cynthia and I were escorted to by our friends Agnes and Berglind.
There's nothing better than having guides who not only know the area well, but are also photographers -- we soon lost count of how many times we'd stopped for photos.
Other places we visited included Goðafoss and Dettifoss (waterfalls), the Mývatn Nature Baths (open-air geothermal pools), and the Krafla geothermal generating plant. There was so much to see and photograph -- not forgetting the dramatic and rapidly changing clouds.
After another delicious dinner of lamb at the hotel where C and I were staying, we all went to a meeting of the Akureyri Women's Camera Club. I had the honor of being the first male guest -- one of the members told me I was "just one of the girls" for the evening.
It was truly a memorable day!
