New Lanark

We visited the UNESCO World Heritage site of New Lanark today.

Knowing very little of Robert Owen and his Utopian socialist ideals, this was an excellent introduction. The kids enjoyed it too, especially the reconstructed classroom and interactive centre.

With all the rain last night, the Falls of Clyde upstream of the village were spectacular - I don't think I've seen falls like them in Scotland before - perhaps only those at Killin in spate could rival them.

The picture shows a working water wheel. The village and its 19th century cotton mills harnessed the flow of the Clyde to provide power.
