Testing, testing.....

Our lovely wee pharmacy regularly tests people for diabetes (type 2) and the process takes about 15-20 minutes from start to finish. It involves taking the tiniest smear of blood and checking it immediately....

We had booked a man in for a test this morning at ten o'clock, and he rushed in at one minute to, saying that his car was on the yellow line, there was a warden hovering, so he only had five minutes and would we get a move on!

I explained that it would take longer than five minutes, because there was a form to be filled, and a wee chat with the pharmacist to be had - not to mention the test itself.

'You don't understand.' he said, ' You're being ridiculous. I only have five minutes, and frankly I fail to see why it should take you any longer than that - it's only a wee prick!' (which coincidentally, were exactly the words that were going through my mind at the time....)

I explained once more , that it would take a lot longer than five minutes, and that perhaps he should rebook.

'I don't have time for that sort of nonsense' he said, 'How about if I go back to the car ......and you do it there?'

Seriously - I don't know about his diabetes, but my blood pressure was sky high!!
