La vida de Annie

Not a female moth, just smells like one

The greatest pest in Menorca, Scouse tourists aside, is the processionary caterpillar. So named because of the way they march in columns from one source of food to another, they have voracious appetites and can strip a pine tree of its foliage in no time, as well as being highly toxic to humans. It's such a problem here that this solution has emerged; many trees are wearing this dinky little bag of female moth pheromones, a scent irresistible to male moths, who then fall in and can't get out again, although presumably they eventually die a blissful death.

I'm wondering if this radical form of contraception (culling the males) could usefully be transferred to Liverpool sink estates? Or Warrington for DZ. Only kidding (maybe). ;-)
